NEW DELHI: The family of a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly raped this Sunday protested outside the Tilak Marg police station on Wednesday. They accused the police of not taking up the investigation in right earnest as nobody has been arrested even three days after the case being registered.

According to the police, the incident took place on May 25 when the victim was at home with her two other siblings, a two-year-old sister and a five-year-old brother. Her mother, who works as a domestic help, was not at home.

“The crime took place when the mother of the victim had left the nine-year-old in charge of the house as she had to attend to some personal work. The accused, who is a 16-year-old boy, was waiting for the girl’s mother to leave after which he entered the victim’s house and allegedly raped the minor with her siblings present in the same room,” said a police officer.

“When her mother arrived from work, she found her daughter crying and in a state of shock. The minor then narrated her ordeal to her mother after which she and her mother went to the Tilak Marg police station and filed a complaint against the accused,” the officer added.

The victim’s relatives alleged that the police lied to them and kept misguiding them saying that they have arrested the accused but actually they had not. “The accused is on the run and police have so far not made any progress. They have been misguiding us,” alleged Nitin, a relative of the victim.

The victim’s mother has now taken it on herself to search for the accused.

“I am looking for the perpetrator myself even during the night in the parks and alleys near the colony. Where can a 16-year-old boy go. I want the culprit to be nabbed as soon as possible,” she said.

The mother also added that instead of support and help, people were questioning the character of the victim who is barely nine years old.

According to the mother, the victim is still not able to eat and drink properly. She plays, but is still struggling to come to terms with what she went through. Police officers said they are searching for the accused ever since the complaint was filed.

“We suspect that he is hiding with some of his friends. We have questioned many in this regards and soon will be able to nab them,” said another police officer.
