Two girls, aged 13 and 16, were allegedly kidnapped from their residence in east Delhi’s Ghazipur early on Tuesday. Their family, however, has accused the police of not taking action despite evidence.

“My father had heard one of my sisters screaming for help around 12.30 a.m. When he entered the room, he saw three to four men taking them away,” said the 23-year-old brother of the girls.

The brother, who stays in an adjacent house, said that he was called immediately. He said he responded to the knocks only around 2 a.m. as he was sleeping, after which the police were called.

“We found a phone and a diary in the girls’ room that didn’t belong to us. We gave it to the police,” said the brother.

Not first attempt: brother

According to the family, the police have not been cooperating. “We gave them the phone. First, they said the SIM card was not working. But when I checked, it showed full network,” he added.

Eight months ago, the brother said, an attempt had been made to abduct his 13-year-old sister. “A case under the POCSO Act was registered then,” he said. The brother suspects the accused in that case might be involved.

“A case has been registered. We are investigating as per NHRC guidelines and are in touch with the family,” said Additional DCP (east) Nand Kishore.
