Investigation into a complaint of unprovoked firing at a man, who suffered a bullet injury in his lower back, led the police to a gang involved in armed robberies in the Capital. The complaint, which turned out to be false, was filed by two of the gang members to deflect attention from an accidental bullet injury suffered by one of their accomplices during an armed robbery in December last year.
Himanshu Gupta and Harprit Kumar were arrested two months after they rushed an accomplice, Sagar Gupta, to a hospital requesting treatment for a bullet injury. Their bluff was called when the motorcycle they were riding was found to be stolen, said Nupur Prasad, DCP (Shahdara).
