The Delhi Police claim to have busted a fake job racket operating in central Delhi with the arrest of its 27-year-old mastermind.

The police received a complaint from M. K. Prabhat, an Under Secretary with the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, regarding the fake website. A case was registered and the alleged mastermind, Sumit Kumar, was arrested by the Parliament Street police on Friday.

Online examination fee

“The complainant alleged that an unauthorised organisation had set up a false website in the name of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, and was also using the Ministry’s logo,” the police said.

They added that the fake website offered jobs for various posts and also asked applicants to pay an online examination fee.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) B.K. Singh said Mr. Kumar has a degree in B.Com and Law from Delhi University, and had set up an organisation named Women and Child Development in March this year.

Two other accomplices, Navita Nagpal and Avit, are also involved in the racket, Mr. Singh said, adding that efforts are on to trace them.

“Interestingly, the organisation is registered in the office of the Sub-Registrar of the central district. The website was designed with the help of one Ankur and a bank account was also opened. The website used the Central government logo to fool applicants,” Mr. Singh said.

₹20 lakh

The DCP added that advertisements were posted for 6,715 vacancies for teaching and other government posts, for which over 4,000 people applied and collectively paid around ₹20 lakh as online examination fee.

The police said the alleged mastermind is pursuing LLM currently.

He had recently appeared for the judicial services exam, they added.
