Factionalism would be dealt with strictly: Amit Shah to BJP workers

Says party’s biggest challenge was ‘complacency among cadre’

While local leaders are busy targeting political opponents Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress as the Delhi Assembly election draws nearer, party president Amit Shah minced no words in reminding faction-ridden Delhi unit on Tuesday that the biggest challenge before the party is ‘complacency of the cadre’.

While addressing members of the State Executive at Delhi BJP headquarter, Mr. Shah said any ‘indiscipline’ will be dealt with strictly and there was no scope of any ‘lobbying’ within the party, be it for party ticket or otherwise.

“The party workers should give up their worries on distribution of tickets. Only 70 people can get tickets. So all workers and leaders will have to stay united and ensure victory of the candidates selected by the party. No infighting in the party will be tolerated and strict action will be taken against any indiscipline,” said Mr. Shah.

Factionalism in the Delhi has been one of the biggest worries of the party over the last few years, with the party experimenting with different leaders at the helm.

The BJP chief, who is also the party’s key electoral strategist, emphasized on micro-management at the booth level to conquer Delhi, where the party, according to him, has the best chance of victory in recent times.

“As part of the micro-planning, workers need to reach out to more polling booths than those covered in the Lok Sabha polls. The BJP will never find such a favourable condition in Delhi to form a government. Door-to-door campaign has been the speciality of the BJP which has been taken up by other parties as well,” Shah said.

Terming the Narendra Modi government’s decision to regularise unauthorised colonies in Delhi, the party president said that the BJP government has been fulfilling its promises in a time-bound manner.

“The Modi government has won the heart of people across the country, now it is the turn of Delhi. The opposition parties always target the functioning of our government, but the results of assembly elections in four states are evident that the Modi government is performing well,” he said.

The Executive committee was also addressed by BJP general secretary (organization) Ram Lal, Delhi BJP in-charge Prabhat Jha besides Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay among others. The MPs from Delhi were also present in the meeting.
