Explanation from power companies sought

May 08, 2010 12:41 am | Updated 12:41 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission on Friday asked the discoms to submit why their interaction with the media on the issue of tariff should not be considered “violative” of its orders.

The Commission had earlier in April directed the discoms not to give statements to the press on any matter relating to tariff fixation.

This direction was reiterated by the Commission on Thursday in response to their letter informing the DERC about their plans to interact with the media.

“From the newspapers of Friday it is clear that you have held a press conference on Thursday and apparently you have spoken on the matters relating to tariff determination for the financial year 2010-11 even though the tariff petitions are pending before the Commission and the hearing has been concluded,” the DERC has written to the discoms.

It has now directed the discoms to explain how their interaction with the media is not violative of its directions and has sought their replies by May 14.
