‘Experience in civic body will help me’

September 19, 2014 09:42 am | Updated 09:42 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay, who quit the post of Standing Committee chairman in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Thursday, said his experience will help him in State politics.

“I got the chance to learn from my colleagues and officials in the corporation. The self-confidence I gained here will stay with me for life,” Mr. Upadhyay told a meeting of the Standing Committee on Thursday.

Mr. Upadhyay will continue to be a member of the committee, but said being the chairperson will be unjust to the corporation. The first-time councillor from Malviya Nagar was appointed the president of the Delhi BJP in July.

He added that his work as chairperson suffered as his daily visits to SDMC’s headquarters, Civic Centre, had reduced to once a week after being appointed to the party post.

Leader of the House Subhash Arya said Mr. Upadhyay will be a link between the government and civic bodies. Leader of the Opposition Farhad Suri and Commissioner Manish Gupta both congratulated Mr. Upadhyay on his post and wished him luck.
