: The Delhi government has re-sent its proposal for the creation of dedicated bus lanes in the Capital to Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung.
The proposal was sent after incorporating the changes suggested by Mr. Jung.
The issue comes to the fore even as the office of the Chief Minister and the L-G are in the throes of their latest disagreement over a proposal related to an app-based premium bus service.
Mr. Jung had asked the Aam Aadmi Party government for clarifications on the proposal which aims at earmarking the extreme left lane on Delhi’s roads exclusively for buses in addition to making other vehicles obstructing the movement of buses on the lane liable to pay a fine of Rs. 2,000, three months ago.
“After consultations with the Public Works Department, the Transport Department and the Law Department, the proposal has been sent back to the L-G’s office,” said a senior government official, adding that if the proposal was stalled again, the matter would be taken to court. This, the official said, was because the proposal was in line with an order from the Supreme Court. In March, the city government had alleged that Mr. Jung had turned down its proposal to create the lanes and the slapping of a fine of Rs 2,000 on violators.
However, the L-G’s office had denied the charge claiming Jung had only sought clarification from the government on it.
