Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday termed the introduction of cleaner Euro-IV fuel as a historic event and a step towards making the capital a world class city.

“Introduction of Euro-IV fuel is a very big, historic event after the introduction of CNG in the capital. This adaptation will help in cleaning up the air and make the citizens healthier,” she told reporters here after the launch of Euro-IV fuel.

She said steps have been taken for infrastructural development in the city which will be a legacy that will be left behind by the Commonwealth Games.

“We have a dream that Delhi should be the foremost city like we talk about London, Paris, New York or Washington...We are doing a lot,” she said.

“The amount being spent on this is mind boggling. Everybody has to contribute,” she added.

On the criticism following withdrawal of subsidy on cooking gas and increase in VAT on CNG and diesel, she said the government cannot give subsidy to everybody.

She said there are some people who can afford not to be subsidised as they are earning more due to the economic boom.
