The Delhi Assembly has taken strong note of the absence of Delhi's Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal from the House during the discussion on “law and order'' this past Thursday.

In his ruling, Speaker Yoganand Shastri said “it has been a tradition of Delhi Legislative Assembly from the beginning that whenever a discussion on law and order has been listed, the Police Commissioner has been present in the Officials' Gallery. But on August 19, 2010 when a short duration discussion on “law and order'' was listed, the Police Commissioner was not present because of which the discussion could not take place and valuable time of the House was lost.''

Stating that “Police Commissioner not being present in the Officials' Gallery was an insult to the feelings of the Members and the House,'' Dr. Shastri took serious note of the issue and directed that “whenever in future a discussion is listed in the House on “law and order'' or such issues the Government should ensure the presence of the Police Commissioner in the Officials' Gallery.''

Incidentally, on Thursday, Special Commissioner Neeraj Kumar was present in the House but the discussion could not take place as the Members objected and protested against the absence of the Police Commissioner.
