Ensure 220 working days, DoE tells schools

Summer break from May 5 to June 30

The Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued a circular directing all schools in the Capital to observe a minimum of 220 working days for upper primary classes in an academic year as mandated by Section 19 of the RTE Act, 2009.

The circular asks all heads of schools to “ensure that for the academic year 2018-19, each school should complete at least 220 working days while planning the restricted and other holidays for calendar year 2018”.

The duration of summer holidays has been fixed between May 5 and June 30, autumn break on October 17 and 18 and winter break between December 28 and January 15.

Time off

The schools have been permitted to observe three holidays as ‘restricted/local holidays’ in calendar year 2018 in addition to ‘gazetted holidays’ as notified by the Administrator, Delhi government.

In case of government aided and unaided recognised schools, the circular stated that the heads of school must obtain approval of holidays from their respective managements.
