Elderly duo held for smuggling

Two senior citizens were arrested by the Customs Department at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle gold worth Rs 25.5 lakh into the country, an official statement said on Monday.

The accused duo – a man (67) and a woman (65) – were intercepted by customs officials soon after their arrival from Frankfurt on Sunday, the statement said. Nearly 995 grams of gold in the form of ‘kadas’, worth around ₹25.54 lakh in the market, was found in their possession, it said. The passengers have been held, the statement added.

A Kuwait-bound passenger has been apprehended at the Delhi airport for allegedly carrying four live bullets in his bag without authorisation. The man, S Siddiqui, was going through security checks at the airport on Sunday when a CISF personnel detected bullets in his hand baggage.
