Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot on Monday dedicated eight post offices under the Project Arrow scheme of the Department of Posts to the people of Delhi. These post offices would have uniform brand hierarchy and a single window service system to reduce the waiting time for customers.
The inauguration function was held at the Andrews Ganj post office from where the other seven post offices were inaugurated through a video link. The other posts offices are at Delhi Cantonment, R.K. Puram-V, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Patel Nagar, Bengali Market, South Avenue and SRT Nagar.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and New Delhi MP Ajay Maken was also present during the inauguration. He said the initiative taken by the Ministry of Communication was indeed innovative as it would lead to thorough transformation of the postal services and make them more utility driven and people friendly.
Mr. Pilot assured that the Department of Posts would continue to upgrade other post offices in the Capital as well. He said a large number of post offices in Delhi Postal Circle are getting transformed under Project Arrow.
While 36 post offices have already undergone complete overhaul last year, in the latest phase of Project Arrow 19 more post offices are being covered in Delhi. Mr. Pilot said of these eight have been dedicated on Monday and the remaining 11 would be dedicated shortly.
He said under the project the post office employees have been sensitised and imparted training in soft skills and information technology. All the upgraded post offices are being equipped with broad band connectivity to provide web-based services of the Department such as e-money order, Western Union money transfer, instant money order and e-post to name a few.
