Eight more trains from today

Commuters of the Delhi Metro will be less hassled during peak hours as eight more trains will be pressed into service on Monday.

The decision was taken to augment the network keeping in view a general trend of increased ridership in the months of August and September over the last few years, said officials. The trains, which will ply during peak hours, have been distributed across the metro’s busiest corridors.

“The arrangement will continue for two months as of now although it may remain in place depending on the requirement. August and September have more ridership compared to other months mainly because of the new session of colleges. Also the office-going public seem to be regular probably due to less number of holidays,” said a metro official.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) conducted a study to prepare an operations plan to make sure that sufficient services were available to the commuters. With the addition of two trains, each on the Yellow and Blue Lines, the number of trains will go up to 55 and 64 respectively on the corridors.

Trains will be available every 2 minutes 18 seconds on the Yellow Line and 2 minutes 30 seconds on the Blue Line. One train each is being added to the Red Line that connects Rithala with Dilshad Garden, and the Green Line between Inderlok and Mundka.

On the Violet Line, the number of trains is going up to 31 with the addition of two. Frequency will see a slight dip on this line, as trains will be available every 3 minutes 22 seconds instead of the current three minutes due to the upcoming launch of the extended section till Faridabad.

“These trains were added from the operational maintenance reserve kept in the metro train depots by optimising the required maintenance schedule. The train maintenance wing of the DMRC has reworked the entire maintenance planning,” the official said.
