Spending time pursuing a hobby or playing a sport in high school can provide applicants to Delhi University (DU) an advantage as each college reserves up to 5% seats in every course for extra curricular activity (ECA) and sports quota.

To apply for ECA quota, applicants will have to register online on the DU admission portal and will have to pay an additional registration fee of ₹100.

DU officials said that “applicants will be required to upload only one certificate (preferably the highest achievement one) issued between May 22, 2014, and May 21, 2017, in each activity they wish to apply for as proof of their involvement in the activity.”

Any additional certificates that the applicant wishes to submit will have to be carried for evaluation in case they are selected for final trials.

Two levels

The university said that trials will be held at two levels: preliminary trials and final trials. Applicants will be allowed to appear at the preliminary trials only once.

The university will provide a 15% concession in marks for the relevant cut-off of the particular course that the candidate has applied for provided that the candidate meets the minimum academic requirement for the programme.

The date for the preliminary/final trials and list of short-listed candidates will be displayed on the university website, college website and notice board.

The university said there will be a 75:25 ratio for weightage in the final trials: 75% for trials and 25% for certificates.

Trials to be recorded

Applicants will have to get at least 50 % marks in the final trial to qualify. All colleges will videograph the preliminary and final trials and will preserve the recordings.

The committee that will hold the ECA trial will comprise of two experts from eminent cultural institutions nominated by the university culture council, principal/ principal nominee, a university cultural council nominee and a member from the college cultural council.

Those selected to a college via ECA quota will have to submit an undertaking at the time of admission stating that the candidate will perform for the college and university for the entire period of the candidate’s undergraduate programme study.

Any candidate submitting false/fake certificate will be debarred from admission to any programme in any college for three years and an FIR may also be registered.
