"I’ve got Dayal Singh College for B.Com. Honours and my best of four is 92 per cent. But with so much relaxation for Extra Curricular Activities, I really hope to get into a better college through my talent,” said Radhika Kapoor, an ECA applicant dressed in classical Indian attrite waiting to give her trial for the classical dance at Kamala Nehru College.
Though Radhika has got a senior diploma in Kathak from Ghaziabad, she has a tough competition from a number other students, vying to get a course and college of their choice through ECA. “I wanted to apply here for Political Science or Sociology, and through ECA we can get a relaxation over the cut-off up to 15 per cent. What’s better than that?” said Sreshtha, dressed in Kathak attire, and an 88 per cent scorer from Lucknow.
“I’ve done a diploma in classical dance and have been into it since last 4 to 5 years. I’ve given my trials in a number of colleges, and hope to get the best,” said Mallika, Delhi Army Public School pass out and a 79 per cent scorer. “I’ve performed at a number of national and international events and have won a number of prizes too,” she added .
Also, National Service Scheme trials took place at Kamala Nehru College. “We have got a number of applications for this. Though little heard of, students applying for this have done a lot of school-level social service and won a lot of awards for the same,” said college NSS president Meenakshi Singh. Explaining further, she said, “The applicants usually submit their forms and certificates for the trials. After that, the NSS convener takes their interview and asks them how they could contribute to the NSS work at the college.’’
Sri Venkateswara College too saw a number of applicants eyeing ECA to get into the college.
The college began its ECA trials on June 28 and ended on Tuesday.
It conducted trials for painting, photography, music, dance and dramatics.
“I have been intro dramatics for a while now, and have won many school and inter-school competitions . I have also directed and scripted a number of street plays,” said Mehr Shah, a 94.25 per cent scorer, who had come to audition at Sri Venkateswara College for dramatics. Her friend Shiwani Hasija, a sports enthusiast and an 80.5 per cent scorer, said: “I have applied through ECA as well as sports, as other than directing a street play in school, I have also won prizes in volleyball and national level prizes in skating.” Both are Carmel Convent School pass outs and B.Com hopefuls.
Lady Shri Ram College also began its ECA trials here on Wednesday and they will run up to July 5. The list of selected applicants for auditions brought smiles and sorrow for many.
