A day after the Election Commission (EC) recommended disqualification of 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs for holding an office of profit, the Congress on Saturday questioned why it had taken the poll panel so long to act.
Alleges pact
“What was the understanding between the BJP government and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal? The EC helped the AAP by not disqualifying the MLAs before the Rajya Sabha elections. What changed between December 22, when the EC announced the polls, and Friday,” asked Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken.
Mr. Maken said that there had been no development in the case itself in the one-month period.
Close aide of Jaitley
He added that the AAP was allowed to nominate N.D. Gupta, a “close associate of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley”.
“It suits the BJP to have the AAP in the running in Delhi because if it is just the Congress versus the BJP, they would lose,” Mr. Maken said.
