The Delhi Police on Monday recorded the statement of the mother of 32-year-old engineer who allegedly stabbed his wife before hanging himself at their residence in Dwarka on Sunday.

Amit Bacchan had allegedly locked his mother in her room before he attacked his wife Shivani Patni and subsequently ended his own life.

“Amit Bacchan’s mother could not recollect anything from the night the incident took place. She told us that her son and daughter-in-law came into her room minutes before she fell asleep. All she can recount is that she heard some voices,” said a senior police officer.

Family members of both Amit and Shivani have agreed that they had a troubled marital life, but have contrasting claims on how the trouble started.

Amit’s body was found on the floor of the room where he allegedly hung himself from a ceiling fan at their Platinum Heights flat in Dwarka.

Shivani was found injured in another room where she had locked herself after her husband left presuming her to be dead.

His family has also questioned the sequence of events narrated by the injured woman, casting a doubt on whether the man committed suicide or not. The police said they are still waiting the post-mortem report of Amit.
