January 21, 2012 01:07 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 01:16 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The young man who gave lift to a 20-year-old Manipuri woman in his car and allegedly raped her in Dwarka here late on Wednesday night has been identified as a resident of Palam Vihar in neighbouring Gurgaon. While the vehicle used in the offence has been impounded, the accused is absconding.

Investigations have revealed that the accused works for a company in the modular kitchenware business. “He is engaged as a small-time contractor for fixing modular kitchens,” said a police officer. The police on Friday raided his residence, but did not find him there. They impounded his vehicle after the victim confirmed that the accused was driving the same car when the incident took place.

The victim took lift from the accused at IFFCO Chowk in Gurgaon around 9 p.m. on Wednesday .
