DUTA to protest against whistleblower’s dismissal

February 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Stating that “whistleblowers” are being victimised, the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has said it will be oppose the dismissal of an Assistant Registrar at the Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute.

“Ajit K. Ghosh was dismissed following an unauthorised ex-parte disciplinary probe against him, in which he was not met by the Inquiry Officer even once. According to the current rules governing non-teaching employees of Delhi University, the Institute’s governing body does not have disciplinary powers to institute any such a probe,” said DUTA president Nandita Narain.

“Mr. Ajit Ghosh has been vocal in raising issues of serious administrative lapses in the Institute, while also standing up for other employees who have been victimised by the administration. His dismissal seems to be prima facie motivated to curb dissent and persecute whistleblowers,” she added.

“In a similar case pertaining to another Assistant Registrar involving the same governing body, the Delhi High Court recently ordered immediate reinstatement of the said officer after rejecting the dismissal on the grounds that no disciplinary powers have been delegated to the governing body,” said DUTA member Saikat Ghosh.
