March 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Delhi University Students’ Union president Satinder Awana is among the nine persons booked by the Noida Police for attempt to murder and molesting a female member of the family after making dowry demands. None of the accused has been arrested as the police have sent the case for mediation, a norm in dowry cases according to Superintendent of Police Dinesh Yadav.

The victim's brother said on March 12, he got a call from his sister who expressed fears of getting killed by her in-laws, her husband’s cousin Satinder included. When he reached there, the woman was being assaulted and he informed the police. The victim in her complaint said that her parents had paid Rs. 20 lakh and even gifted an Audi car. But the family, it is alleged, was insisting on another Jaguar car and would beat up when she expressed inability to meet the demands.
