Delhiites are forced to inhale polluted air every time they venture out of home. However, they will soon get the much-needed relief with the Delhi Government planning to make all the main roads clean, dust-free and congestion-free. The initiative is likely to restore a healthy atmosphere in the Capital.

Public Works Department Minister Satyendra Jain said here over the weekend that the government’s action on this front would reduce pollution level in Delhi by 25 per cent. He pointed out that 78 per cent of pollution in the Capital was caused by vehicles and 38 per cent of this was because of dust raised by fast-moving vehicles.

Addressing the annual session and business conference of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Delhi State Council here, Mr. Jain said all the PWD roads would be covered in the new initiative. The move follows an observation that manual cleaning does not remove dust away from the roads and re-suspension of dust is a major source of particulates in ambient air.
