A 26-year-old woman was stabbed to death by two men in south-east Delhi’s Govindpuri on Wednesday night, the police said, adding that the accused have been arrested.

The incident happened in a fit of rage following a quarrel with the victim’s husband, the police said.

The victim, Suman, was allegedly stabbed by Ajay (23) and Bijender (24), both residents of Dakshinpuri, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said.

The police said that Ms. Suman, resident of Sangam Vihar, had come to Govindpuri’s weekly market with her husband Umesh Dubey.

“The accused men were standing very close to the woman. Finding it inappropriate, her husband objected to it after which a quarrel broke out between them,” Mr. Biswal said.

Stabbed in chest

The accused then whipped out a knife and attacked Mr. Umesh but when Ms. Suman intervened and they stabbed her in the chest.

She was immediately rushed to a hospital by her husband.

Meanwhile, the accused duo was caught and roughed up by the public before a PCR call was made at 8.47 p.m. On reaching the spot, the police found that Ms. Suman was already taken to a hospital.

“The two were caught by the people. They were arrested from the spot. The officers went to locate the victim but could not find them for a brief period,” Mr. Biswal said.

The police then received a call from Holy Family Hospital stating that Ms. Suman has succumbed to the injuries.

Based on Mr. Umesh’s statement, a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered.

“Ajay has no criminal history but Bijender has a theft case registered against him. A knife was also recovered from their possession,” Mr. Biswal added.
