In its maiden attempt to take the registration process for undergraduate admissions completely online, Delhi University is treading cautiously. From arranging open house sessions by individual colleges to making sure the server works well, DU is doing it all.

Like every year, the University will have an open house session to help students with the registration process this year too. The open house session will be held on June 1 between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Conference Centre in DU’s North Campus.

However, individual colleges too will hold open house sessions to help students with filling up of forms. The schedule for this will be announced by individual colleges themselves.

For the process that starts from Wednesday, the University has appointed a separate team to look after the online registration process. The team includes two-three technical experts, some student interns from the University and other staff members to make sure things go smoothly.

Extra careful

“Since this is the first time the admission process will be completely online, we are trying to be extra careful. We will try to make sure the servers work uninterrupted at all times and that there is regular electricity supply to our office,” said DU Registrar Pramod Kumar.

Mr. Kumar added that taking the application process completely online is also a way of “sensitising students about the application process”.

“When a student applies online, he/she will have to upload self-attested copies of all relevant documents on the website. This means that the student will be solely responsible for providing the information to the University,” said Mr. Kumar.

Self-attested documents

Students are required to submit self-attested copies of all relevant documents, including Class X and XII marksheets, provisional certificates and sports/ECA/Kashmiri migrants certificates in case they are applying under a particular quota. Once the documents are submitted, a pop-up box will reconfirm whether the documents are self-attested.

While the final admission policy has not been announced by DU so far, a member of the 24-member DU admissions committee said that admissions under the ECA and Sports quotas will be centralised this year.

The registration process will go on till June 19. Thereafter, admissions in individual colleges will begin from June 27.
