The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) held a 12-hour standing dharna to demand the rights of workers at the university here on Saturday.
DUTA president Nandita Narain said the protesters were demonstrating against the “inhuman act of removing chairs and other facilities for security guards employed by the university”.
“The demands for exorbitant sums of money and insensitive closure of a dhaba , which has for generations been a part of the university and a space where teachers, students, karamcharis as well as morning and evening walkers have come together and interacted; the arbitrary action of simultaneously terminating the services of the security officer of the South Campus and his wife, who was a library employee, are the issues for which we are carrying out this dharna ,” she said.
