Delhi University on Friday suspended five non-teaching staff members from the School of Open Learning for opening confidential files. The files related to the admission details of the new Human Resource Development Minister, Smriti Irani.

A news report stating that the Minister had enrolled for a B.A. (Political Science) course only last year, which is in direct contradiction of her affidavits filed for the Lok Sabha elections in 2004 and 2014, appeared in a prominent Hindi daily.

Ms. Irani, whose credentials as HRD Minister were questioned for her lack of college education, was already landed in the soup because of the recent controversy over her contradictory affidavits.

In 2004, when she contested from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk, Ms. Irani filed an affidavit stating that her educational qualification was “B.A., 1996, University of Delhi (School of Correspondence)”.

And, for the 2014 election, she stated her education qualifications as: “Bachelor of Commerce Part-1, School of Open Learning (Correspondence), University of Delhi in 1994”.
