A Delhi University student and a young pilot allegedly committed suicide in separate cases in the Capital during the past 24 hours.

Nineteen-year-old Samiran Saikia, a B.Sc. (I) student of Hindu College, allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan of his rented accommodation in Vijay Nagar here on Saturday. The incident came to light when one of his friends Uppal went to his room around noon and found him hanging. Samiran was declared brought dead at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital. No suicide note was found in his room.

Samiran, a native of Assam, was taking exams and was depressed, the police said.

In another case, Prem Nagar resident Neeraj Lamba, 27, hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his double-storey house on Friday afternoon. He was alone at home when he took the extreme step.

Neeraj's mother had gone to their relatives and when she returned around 1 p.m. there was no response to her repeated knocks at the door. She then alerted the neighbours who broke open the door and found Neeraj hanging. He was declared brought dead at a hospital. The hospital authorities later reported the matter to the police.

“No suicide note has been found. It is not known as to why he took the extreme step,” said a senior police officer.

Neeraj was a pilot in a private airline.
