DU poll results out

February 02, 2013 11:12 am | Updated 11:12 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Left-affiliated Democratic Teachers’ Front candidate Abha Dev Habib and the Congress-affiliated Academics for Action and Development’s Aditya Narayan Misra grabbed the two seats in the Delhi University’s Executive Council elections, results for which were declared here on Friday.

While Mr. Misra polled 2,680 votes, Ms. Habib polled 2,292 votes from the total poll of 6,850 votes.

“We fought this election on the issue of 4, 000 teacher posts lying vacant, anti-student and teacher reforms of the university, non-implementation of the UGC guidelines regarding reservations and the misrule of the Vice-Chancellor,” said Ms. Habib, explaining that the reforms of the university were aimed at contractualisation of teachers and commercialization of education. She also added that they would stick with Prof. Saibaba, the disabled professor who had been served an eviction notice by the university to vacate his quarters.

Interestingly, the two winning organisations have also been at the helm of the DUTA executive in the recent past.
