Delhi University on Monday entered into an MoU with NASSCOM to pave way for offering to its undergraduate students a course that will develop employment skills suitable to get jobs in the BPO industry.

The Global Business Foundation Skills course, as it is called, has been designed by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), with inputs from prominent players in the BPO sector including Convergys, Genpact, Accenture, and IBM among others.

The course will be available to final year students as an ‘add-on’ course on a first come first serve basis, the University said in a statement.

“If India retains a share of around 50 per cent of the global market (in BPO sector) through focussed initiatives, the industry would still need an additional 6.9 million people,” NASSCOM President Som Mittal said after signing the MoU.

DU Vice Chancellor Prof Deepak Pental said the MoU was a landmark event, given that it marked the first instance of the University and NASSCOM coming together to address the issue of employability.
