DU admissions: 1,557 pick basketball for sports trials

Trials for students seeking undergraduate admission to Delhi university via the sports quota will be held between June 27 and July 6.

This year, the university has received 12,914 applications in 38 sports.

The highest number of applications have been received for basketball, football, and athletics, with 1,557, 1,411 and 1,353 applications respectively. The least popular sports are equestrian and rowing with four applicants each, diving with five and kayaking/canoeing with six.

For admission via sports quota, the university will give a maximum of 40 marks to the sports certificate that an applicant has been awarded and 60 marks will be given to the sports trial.

The list of applicants selected on the basis of the sports quota will be displayed on the university website before July 13 and the verification of certificates will be undertaken by July 15, after which individual colleges will come out with their first sports admission list.

Certificates needed

Students with their names on the first list will be given time till July 21 to take admission into respective colleges and get their documents verified. The second and third sports lists will be released on July 21 and July 27.

Only those applicants who have represented India in Olympics, world championship, world cup, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Asian championship, South Asian games and Paralympics will be allowed direct admission without trials. DU has released a detailed list of eligible certificates for the trials and marks that they carry.

Each college in DU that is accepting students via sports quota has uploaded a list of sports that they offer and the number of seats available. An applicant must secure a minimum of 30 marks in the sports trial to be eligible for admission.

DU informed that it is mandatory to submit an undertaking on non-judicial stamp paper of ₹100 by the applicant at the time of admission, stating that he/she will play for the college and university during the undergraduate programme.
