: The application process for undergraduate courses in Delhi University went glitch-free on the first day, university officials said.

Over 37,000 students applied to Delhi University through the online channel on the day one.

A senior university official said: “The online registration started at midnight, and 37,850 students have registered till 5 p.m. As many as 8,791 candidates have already made the payment.”

No technical error was reported during the online registration process, he added.

Last year, the university’s website had crashed on the first day of the application process, making the number of registrations on that day very less. This year, the university had taken up additional precautions to avoid such glitches and had back-up servers to avoid crashing of the system, officials said.

“We have put up strong, dedicated servers in place and enough back up servers have also been arranged to ensure that the application process is smooth and there is no inconvenience to aspirants,” an official said.

Three teams including the Students’ Welfare department, DU's Computer Centre and Informatics and Communication (IIC) products and service division are engaged in the admission process.

A total of 54,000 seats in various undergraduate programmes are available at the university. The last date for online registration is June 15, while offline forms will be accepted at nine registration centres from June 5 to June 15.

The Centralised Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) forms are available on Delhi University’s website — www.du.ac.in — and students will have to make the payment through Internet banking.

The fee for general category students is Rs. 100 whereas for SC/ST students the admission form will cost Rs. 50. The first cut-off list will be announced on June 25.
