: Two drunk youths allegedly assaulted a Delhi Police head constable with a helmet in Rohini on Sunday. One of them also bit the finger of a Home Guard who came to the head constable’s rescue.
The incident happened when Head Constable Satveer (45) flagged down the suspects for driving dangerously and on the wrong lane.
While one of the suspects was nabbed by the victims, the other is absconding.
Satveer and Home Guard Hoti Lal (30) were on patrolling duty and moving towards Rithala from Madhuban Chowk when they came across the suspects.
Errant driver
At 12:15 a.m. they noticed a Maruti Swift car plying on the wrong side. The signalled the driver to stop, and asked him to produce the vehicle’s documents. The driver, however, told the policemen that it was none of their business, and started abusing them.
“They lifted my helmet I had taken off and started attacking my skull with it. When Hoti Lal came to help me, they attacked him as well and started biting on the ring and middle finger of his left hand,” said Satbir.
“The attackers were driving a Swift Dzire car against the flow of traffic. Satveer and Hoti Lal tried to stop them. Hemant (who was on the driving seat) and Nitin attacked Satveer when he asked them to show the documents of the car,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikramjit Singh. Two beer bottles were also found in the vehicle.
The car, which is now kept at the Rohini North police station, belongs to a man in Laxmi Nagar Hemant works for. However, Hemant has put a Delhi Police sticker on the car. His father Ved Prakash is a head constable currently posted at a police training college.
