As many as 12 people were injured after an allegedly drunk driver hit them in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar on Thursday night. The accused was arrested from the spot.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. on a road leading to Balmiki Mandir near the Block-12 Community Centre when Anup Kumar, who was allegedly inebriated, rammed several vehicles over a stretch of 400 to 500 metres.
“Among the vehicles he hit were a scooty, a bike, an e-rickshaw, and finally a car. He hit eight vehicles in all,” said a senior police officer.
The vehicle came to a halt after it hit a car parked next to a pole. A crowd had gathered meanwhile, which beat the driver up and called the police.
The police found 12 injured people at the spot, of whom one was a pedestrian. “All of them were rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Tyagi Nursing Home and Mata Chanan Devi Hospital. They are out of danger,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Vijay Kumar.
Case registered
The police said that Anup Kumar, a resident of Krishna Park, was heading home from Hari Nagar.
“A driver by profession, he had dropped some children to a sports complex in Hari Nagar on Thursday evening, after which he went to drink. He was on his way home when the incident happened,” said a police officer.
A case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered.
