Drugs worth Rs. 30 lakh seized; teenager held

A teenager was arrested in Connaught Place here over the weekend on charges of drug peddling. The police claim to have seized contraband valued at Rs.30 lakh from him.

Delhi Police Crime Branch Sub-Inspector Rajbir Singh recently received a tip-off that a young man involved in drug trafficking in Delhi and its neighbourhood would come to Connaught Place. A Crime Branch team, under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Bhatia, laid a trap on Barakhamba Road on Saturday and arrested the young man, later identified as Mohammad Khalid, 19. More than 300 gm of heroin was seized from him, the police said.

A case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered. His father Mohammad Sahib is a proclaimed offender in a case under the Act. After Sahib absconded, Khalid took to drug peddling along with his stepmother. A resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, Khalid earlier stayed at Yamuna Pushta in Delhi.
