Doctors have opposed the Delhi government’s decision to extend OPD timings by two hours stating that they are already exhausted due to their existing work schedule.
Vivek Chouksey, the president of the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association, said: “The Delhi government should hire more doctors and increase infrastructure to extend OPD timing. Resident doctors in all public hospitals in Delhi are likely to protest against the order and we will soon chalk out a plan after discussing the issue with our members.”
In its order dated October 9, the Delhi government had extended OPD timings saying they will remain functional from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. so there is enough time to attend to patients and reduce crowding at hospitals. It had added that registration counters shall open at 7.30 a.m. and close at 1 p.m. to achieve this. The order had also said that a “token system” would be implemented whenever required.
