A 25-year-old doctor, a native of Tirupur in Tamil Nadu, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his rented accommodation in east Delhi’s Dilshad Garden on Wednesday morning. A syringe was found next to his body, the police said.
Sharath Prabhu, a first-year postgraduate student at University College of Medical Sciences, used to reside with three flatmates, one of whom has gone home (in Tamil Nadu).
His two flatmates, Arvind and Karthikeyan, who are also studying at UCMS, found Sharath lying unconscious in the washroom around 6.30 a.m. and rushed him to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
“A syringe was found near him and two bottles of solution were found on the table; one was potassium chloride and the other was insulin,” said a senior officer. The deceased’s father, Selvamani, who deals in clothes, reached the GTB Hospital mortuary around 4.30 p.m.
Kin suspect foul play
Sharath’s body has been preserved for post-mortem which will be conducted on Thursday — a board of doctors is likely to be constituted for it, the officer said.
The family of the deceased suspects foul play. Sharath’s uncle P. Jayakanthan in Parapalayam, Tirupur, said they were given two versions of his health.
“On Wednesday, his roommate called around 7.30 a.m. to inform us that Sharath had collapsed in the bathroom around 6 a.m. and later died. But subsequently, he mentioned that Sharath fell from the bed,” he said.
The police said the flatmates are being questioned.
Sharath came to Delhi from Tirupur six months ago after completing his MBBS from Coimbatore Medical College in 2017.
