DMDK to contest Delhi polls

Film actor Vijayakanth’s Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) will be the first political party from Tamil Nadu to contest in the coming Delhi Assembly elections. Eleven candidates including three women will enter the fray from the party.

The party is contesting the polls in a bid to raise issues that concern the Tamil population residing in the national capital. Mr. Vijayakanth and his wife are also scheduled to campaign in the city after November 25. The DMDK’s candidates that include lawyers, housewives and traders will contest from high-profile constituencies including Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s home turf of New Delhi, BJP strongholds of Janakpuri and Palam. .
