Setting a tough target, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Saturday announced that it would provide free water tankers to city dwellers in two years from now. Besides, it also pledged to add 230 more colonies to its network by 2016.
The announcements were made by the water utility while it submitted a compilation of DJB’s “100 Achievements in 100 Days” to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The free water scheme for usage of up to 20 kiloliters a month (about 700 liters a day), was the first of the list of 99 others in the booklet.
“This has benefited around 10.5 lakh consumers including residents of co-operative group housing societies,” it read.
The DJB reiterated that the scheme has been extended to residents of unauthorized colonies as it has reduced “water development charges” in unauthorised colonies from Rs 440/sq meter to Rs 100/sq meter.
“Sewer development charges for residents of unauthorized colonies also have been reduced from Rs. 494/sq meter to Rs. 100/sq meter which is a reduction of 80 per cent,” informed a DJB official. The booklet was presented to Mr. Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia by DJB Vice Chairperson Kapil Mishra and CEO, S.S. Yadav.
While accepting the compilation, Mr. Kejriwal said, “I commend DJB for their achievements in the water and waste water sector in this short period of time.”
