The victim, Vijaydeep Singh, a resident of west Delhi’s Vijay Garden, was celebrating one of his friend’s birthday along with eight other friends at ‘Raftaar’ restobar.

DJ Yudi alias Deepak was playing songs when an argument broke out between him and one of Singh’s friend over playing a Punjabi track.

“The DJ rushed to the kitchen and returned with a knife. He attacked Singh with it. Singh tried to stop him while suffering injuries on his hand, but Deepak stabbed Singh on the lower abdomen and fled,” said Vijay Kumar, DCP (West).

‘Beer bottles hurled’

“We went to the restobar to celebrate one of our friend’s birthday party. We were a total of nine people including women. We were dancing on the floor and enjoying the party. Singh went out for some work. Meanwhile, one of our friends requested the DJ to play a Punjabi song as the restobar would be closing soon. However, the DJ refused which led to a scuffle. Mistakenly, the DJ’s laptop fell on the ground,” said Tejinder, a friend who was with Singh in the party.

He added that by the time Singh returned and tried to intervene, the DJ and other staff had attacked him.

“We all were thrashed and beer bottles were hurled on us. Amidst the fight, the DJ got a knife from somewhere and attacked Singh. He collapsed on the spot while the DJ fled away. We rushed him to a hospital where he was declared dead,” added Tejinder.

“The accused Deepak who was a DJ in the restobar has been arrested under IPC Section 302 (murder). A victim’s friend who is also an eyewitness has filed a complaint into the matter. A crime team also visited the restobar and collected evidences. The knife used in the murder has been recovered from the accused’s possession. We have also procured the CCTV footage from the restobar,” said Mr. Kumar.
