The dismembered body of a woman who appears to be in her 30s was found in two cartons on Thursday morning in south-east Delhi’s Sarita Vihar, the police said on Friday. The woman is yet to be identified.

Stuffed in cartons

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said they received a call around 8 a.m. regarding cartons abandoned on a vacant roadside plot.

“The police reached the spot and inspected the two cartons. Her limbs were in one carton and the rest of her body in the other. Her face had been disfigured,” said Mr. Biswal.

A crime team was called for inspection.

Case registered

The police sent the body to the AIIMS mortuary for post-mortem and a case under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.

Mr. Biswal said the police are checking records of missing persons and the central identification system to identify the woman.
