“Dilli Ke Pakwaan”, the food festival that presents the street food unique to the Capital, opened to huge crowds on Wednesday.
There were the usual paneer pakoda, aflatooni tikka, chicken lollipop, halwa and gulab jamun along with specialities from new and old parts of Delhi. In all, there are 60 food items beings served.
The seven-day food festival was inaugurated by Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, who advised people not to overeat.
This is the fifth time that the festival is being organised by the Delhi Tourism Department to give an organised platform to food artistes as well as promote tourism in the Capital. “The chefs have specially come to Baba Kharak Singh Marg for giving the city a taste of their best dishes all under one roof,” said a Delhi Tourism spokesperson.
There were cultural activities like katchi-godi, bhopa-bhopi and a lively puppet show in the evening. A daring fire act was also organised.
Dilli Ke Pakwaan’s colourful and informative souvenir was also launched. The organisers are expecting more footfall on Thursday, it being Christmas. A bhangra performance, food quizzes and talks and some other cultural activities have also been planned.
