The preliminary post-mortem report of 15-year-old Rajat Menon does not ascertain if the blows he sustained from the accused juvenile brothers proved fatal.

With this, the police are now looking towards another medical report to see if it was organ failure that could have led to the death.

Minor brothers accused

It is being alleged that Rajat was waylaid by the two brothers, whose father runs a pan shop in the area, after they accused him of stealing from their shop.

They assaulted Rajat after he denied their accusations.

The incident took place in Mayur Vihar on Wednesday evening.

“We are now looking at whether the blows they landed on the victim led to an organ failure. For that, we need to know if he died due to organ failure in the first place. The final medical report is awaited,” said a senior police officer.

Accused apply for bail

The accused juveniles were on Friday produced before a Juvenile Justice Board, which sent them to an observation home.

The officer said they had applied for bail and that the hearing may take place next week.

The duo face allegations of murder, but sources in the Delhi Police say that the investigation so far has not yielded anything that can substantiate the charges.

It appears that the offence here is culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
