Delhi Health Department with technical assistance from The Deworm the World Initiative led by Evidence Action has launched a State-level programme for National Deworming Day.
This anganwadi and school-based deworming programme will be implemented across 3,032 schools and 11,500 anganwadis in Delhi on April 16.
A mop-up day is scheduled for April 20 to cover all those children who were absent.
Addressing the children at the launch of Delhi Deworming Day on Wednesday, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said, “Over 25 per cent children in Delhi are suffering from worm infestations. These worms act as parasites and suck up all the nutrition.” Subodh Kumar Mishra, Director, School Health Scheme, said that school-level deworming programme will also help address other issues like anaemia and malnutrition in growing children.
