The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has launched suo motu action on the sudden disruption of power in the Capital on May 30 following a storm, and on June 6, while observing that this was largely due to the failure of the transmission and distribution companies to carry out augmentation, upgradation and proper repairs and maintenance.
The DERC has taken a serious note of the power supply failure and expressed its displeasure with Delhi Transco Limited and discoms for delays in execution of approved schemes. It has advised both DTL and discoms to suitably modify the schemes, which they could not implement for various reasons.
According to a DERC statement, the Commission has directed DTL and discoms to show cause within a week why appropriate action should not be taken against them in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003, and terms and conditions of its licensee.
The DERC will also hold a public hearing on Friday and Saturday for listening to the views of different stakeholders on determination of power tariff for 2014-15. The release said the public hearing, to be organised at Siri Fort Auditorium II, would be open for general public, as well as industrial, commercial and government organizations and other agencies.
The Commission will also simultaneously hold public hearing on draft demand side management regulations, proposed regulations on net metering in respect of rooftop solar photovoltaic projects and regulatory accounting regulations.
