Controversial godman and Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim on Monday appeared in a a court in Sirsa in the alleged ‘sadhvi’ sexual assault case. From there, he marked his presence in a Central Bureau of Investigation court at Panchkula through video-conferencing.

The next hearing will be held on April 4. The Haryana police had made elaborate security arrangements. They had deployed eight reserve battalions to prevent any untoward incident in the city. Police launched a drive to get the Dera followers deposit their firearms.

Last week, the Punjab and Haryana High Court asked the trial court to reconsider Ram Rahim’s application on the forensic examination of a letter in the 2002 rape case against him. The Dera head had claimed that in the letter the sadhvi had praised him while leaving the sect. But the sadhvi had claimed that she had not written the letter.
