Demonstration by Naga students

May 08, 2010 12:42 am | Updated 12:42 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Several young Naga students, including girls, held a demonstration outside Manipur Bhavan here on Friday protesting against the killing of four persons in a firing by security personnel in Manipur.

A large number of students assembled on Sardar Patel Marg in the afternoon to protest against the killings of four in a standoff between a group of protestors and security personnel at Mao Gate in Manipur a day ago.

The students also shouted slogans and decried the Manipur Government's refusal to allow NSCN (I-M) leader T. Muivah to visit his ancestral village in the State. When the police tried to disperse the protestors, they resorted to stone-throwing and rioting.

The police then caned the protestors and used tear-gas to bring the situation under control.

Another group of students had staged a peaceful demonstration outside Manipur Bhavan on Thursday evening. “About 60-70 students reached Manipur Bhavan in buses on Thursday evening and held a demonstration in support of their leader T. Muivah. It was a peaceful demonstration that continued till midnight,” said a senior police officer.
