A delegation of rural Delhi residents, led by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Naresh Kumar met Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy this past week to demand immediate stoppage of the demolition being carried out by the civic authorities in the extended Lal Dora areas adjoining Delhi's villages.

In a memorandum submitted to these two leaders, the residents said the limits of the Lal Dora have not been extended since 1908 in several areas such as Hirankudna, Ladpur and Madanpur. At the same time, the population of these villages have increased and therefore the residents have made some constructions for their families in their extended Lal Dora land.

In 2008, they said, the Delhi Government had come out with a scheme to regularise the habitation in the extended Lal Dora areas. But they said recently when the Delhi Government decided to clamp down on unauthorised colonies, these extended abadi areas were clubbed with these colonies. “This is not right,'' said Dr. Kumar, adding that this has led to a lot of uproar among the village population.
