: The Coordination Committee of All District Courts’ Bar Associations has claimed that litigants will benefit massively if the pecuniary jurisdiction of the lower courts here is enhanced from Rs.20 lakh to Rs.2 crore.

At present, only six courts in the Delhi High Court’s original side hear civil cases. As a result, litigants have to wait for years for decisions on their cases, committee convener Sanjeev Nasiar, told The Hindu .

In case the pecuniary jurisdiction of lower courts is enhanced, all cases up to the value of Rs.2 crore will get transferred to lower courts, where more than 100 courts will hear them. This will cut down the time required for consideration and decisions in such cases, Mr. Nasiar said.

Further, the litigants will get one more opportunity to appeal. Therefore, the litigants will get cheaper and speedy justice, he added.
