To bring in the New Year, people experimented with different cuisines and beverages visiting swanky malls, five star hotels and discotheques across the Capital with their families and friends.
In comparison to last year, when celebrations were subdued as Delhiites were in a belligerent mood over the death of a gang-rape victim , this year, revellers seem to have left no stops to usher in the New Year .
An employee of a five star hotel said all restaurants specialising in cuisines and liquor from across the globe were overflowing with customers. “We did not have a live concert but disco jockeys regaled the public with the latest songs from Bollywood films as well as songs from the black and white era.”
He said last year, celebrations were subdued because Delhiites were protesting at Jantar Mantar over the gang-rape incident.
Many movie theatres also reported movie tickets being booked in advance.
Surprisingly, at discotheques, a number of families rather than couples were seen. “It was more to celebrate the arrival of New Year. So, I made use of the holiday to go with my wife and parents,” said Neeraj Mathur, an Information Technology professional.
Some group housing societies at Indra Prashta Extension celebrated the New Year with DJs and good food. However, some residents preferred celebrating the New Year in front of the television.
“I decided to sit at home with my family because late night parties have a pernicious influence on children,” rued R.P. Singh, who lives in East Delhi.
