The foundation stone for a new Air Traffic Control tower at Indira Gandhi International Airport here was laid by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Wednesday.
“The tower will give the controllers a commanding view of the entire airport as well as a much larger working space so that a larger number of controllers can operate and reduce the pressures on every controller. I am happy that GMR has started work on this project and from the tight deadlines that have been mentioned to me, I am sure that the city of Delhi will be adding this tower to its list of landmarks pretty soon,” said the Minister.
The new 102-metre tower will be fully functional by mid-2014 and will be the tallest in the country and seventh tallest in the world. In fact, it will be 40 per cent taller than Qutub Minar.
